Arkham Horror LCG Battle Report: The Last King (Path to Carcosa Part 2)
Disclaimer: If you haven't heard about Arhkam Horror: The Card Game, you might have trouble with this post. Also, potential spoilers ahead.
Last time, I began recapping our group playing through the “Path to Carcosa” campaign, which ended with me realizing that I had mixed up the Act & Agenda decks. In the next scenario, The Last King, our characters stumble into the weirdest dinner part ever in order to find out more about the play “The King in Yellow”.
Just a reminder of what characters we are playing again:
Myself: Jenny Barnes
Cory: Mandy Thompson
Jimmy: Jim Culver
Mike: Tommy Muldoon
In the Last King, instead of having clues at all the different locations, each of the 5 party guests in the scenario has a stack of clues on them. When you remove the last clue from them, you have “investigated” them and you find out another piece of the story. The guests are dealt out randomly to the different rooms in the scenario, and each room has different ways that it helps or hinders you in this process. We quickly spread out and went to the guests that we would be the best at investigating. For instance, my character got resources faster than the others, so I went to Jordan Perry. Cory had the most intellect, so she went to Constance Dumaine.
Eventually, when threat gets high enough, and when your fellow players have checked to make sure the Act/Agenda decks are in the right order this time, a new guest joins the party. This one, Dianne Devine, is not someone you want to be interacting with as she is a “monster” that basically keeps you from getting clues when she is around, which is super annoying. Let’s just say there was one time I was tempted to get rid of her with a well placed Dynamite Blast.
This scenario is one of the classic Arkham stereotypes of “Keep going until the adventure gets too much and then peace out and resign”. This is my 3rd attempt at playing this scenario, and this was by far the best attempt at it yet. We managed to get 4 of the 5 guests interrogated before bad stuff started happening. What bad stuff? Oh, nothing special, just that if you wait too long, the guests start turning into grotesque monsters that hunt you down. Since the guests don’t leave the board once you get the clues off of them, we got lucky in that the first one that turned was someone we had cleared.
However, Jordan Perry, one of the ones we didn’t finish getting the clues off of, was one of the next ones to turn. It made me glad that I didn’t waste my Dynamite Blast on Dianne Devine earlier. We mitigated the remaining monsters until we got the 4 people investigated and then sprinted out of the house. The last choice you get to make in the scenario is whether you leave, board up the house, or burn it down. Originally, the crew wanted to just board up the house, but I managed to convince them to just burn it all down. Hopefully, this means that they wont be coming back to terrorize us later? Maybe? Probably not.
What did you think of this Battle Report? Have you managed to investigate all 5 party guests? Let me know in the comments, or you can hit me up on twitter or facebook.
