"Studio Redesign" - In The Knerd
If you follow me on Twitter (@ChrisTheProf), then you may have noticed all the pictures I've been posting up this past weekend. I was so excited when Ashley offered to help me remodel my "studio" -- the place where I do all my podcasting. The picture above shows what the area looked like as I started taking down all the equipment and clearing the place out. We had a couple of reasons for doing this: 1) Ashley could hear everything I said upstairs, so some soundproofing was needed and 2) all my equipment was stuffed onto one or two desks and I needed more space. All of this we accomplished using very simple means and without spending a lot of money.
I had some ideas on what kind of desk I wanted; but looking around I saw that in order to get that I was going to have to spend a decent amount of money. So Ashley came up with an idea of moving the 3 desks we already had in the basement into a "U-shape", which turned out even better than what I had originally wanted:
Here's what the room looked like at the end of the first day:
We decided to barricade off the room from the rest of the basement to improve the sound qualities of my shows, and to give the "studio" a new isolated feel. Here's what it looked like from the outside:
And here are some photos of the completed studio.
The lighting and tiny spaces made it hard to get a good picture, but I'm thinking about making a video soon about how I podcast and in which I'll show off the studio. I'm so excited about this room--it turned out so much better than I had expected. And not only is a great studio, its a great all around "Nerd Cave" for video gaming as well. And I'm not done-- I have so many plans for the room. I want to get prints and artwork from some of my favorite artists around the internet like Scott Johnson (http://www.myextralife.com) and James Kennison (http://www.youremockingmearentyou.com). Down the road a bit, I want to get a smaller TV to hang in the corner and move one of my gaming consoles in here as well. Its going to be so awesome!
