Chris vs. The Batman - 7/25/11

As many of you know, I have been a Batman fan for awhile....a long long time.  Recently, I've decided that I want to start getting various sketches of Batman done for me at conventions and keep them all in a nice little sketchbook.  Right now, I'm thinking that I'll get each artist to do Batman vs. a random character.  Anyways, I was looking at books at my local art store and they had these cheap sketch pads on sale.  This got me to thinking that it might be cool for ME to try drawing Batman.  I am not an artist, but being inspired by James Kennison (who is a GREAT artist) and his blog "You're Mocking Me Aren't You", where each day he has a piece of original Buzz Lightyear artwork, I decided to try drawing Batman a lot in the hopes that I'll get better over time.  I'm not promising one a day, but if I get a free chance to draw I'll take advantage and post it here for you guys to see how I'm doing (and give constructive feedback on what I can do to improve).  Here's today's sketch:

I used a picture I found online as a reference and tried to replicate it.  I was scoping through various Batman pictures trying to find one to attempt to copy and all the pictures I could find looked to be really complicated.  So, I decided on this picture for a couple of reasons.  First of all, it's a very simple Batman.  Secondly, and more importantly, THIS is Batman to me.  Long before I ever read a Batman comic, I was hooked on Batman: The Animated Series.  I enjoyed every single episode and it is the best thing ever to come out of television.  One of my big podcasting dreams is to interview/meet Kevin Conroy someday, the voice of Batman in TAS.

For reference, here is the original picture:
